Jun. 27 /CSRwire/ - SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2007--The Qwest Foundation today announced an award of $2,500 to South Dakota's chapter of Teach For America.

Teach For America is a national corps of outstanding recent college graduates - of all academic majors - who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools in the nation's lowest-income communities in an effort to expand educational opportunity.

"Teach For America plays a critical role in South Dakota, and Qwest is pleased to provide a supporting role in their mission," said Larry Toll, Qwest president for South Dakota. "The corps members in South Dakota make an immediate and positive impact by providing our school districts with exceptional teachers."

"We are very grateful to receive the grant money from the Qwest Foundation to help offset the costs of recruitment, selection and training of our teachers," said Ryan Wise, executive director of South Dakota's Teach For America. "Thanks to Qwest, our teachers will be supported as they work to achieve significant academic gains with their students."

Teach For America corps members in South Dakota provide school districts with exceptional teachers who go beyond traditional expectations to ensure that their students succeed academically. A long-term impact is made by building an ever-expanding force of alumni leaders who become lifelong advocates for educational equity.
