Department of Navy and Adecco Form Partnership to Create 'Career Accelerator'; World's Largest Staffing Services Company Helps Military Spouses Build their Careers at No Cost

In an initiative that recognizes the important contributions of military spouses in the life of their families and our nation, the Department of the Navy, in partnership with Adecco, has launched Career Accelerator, an entirely new approach to military-sponsored employment assistance.

Through this service, Adecco recruiters provide military spouses with career counseling, training and job placement at no cost to either the military or the spouses.

Buster Tate, director of personnel readiness and community support for the Department of the Navy, said, "Due to frequent moves necessitated by military obligations, spouses often express concern about the challenges involved in finding a job and building a career. We feel certain that by helping military spouses take command of their careers, we can improve the retention rate in the military. Career Accelerator is a big step forward in our service to military spouses, in that it supplements the services of on-base spouse employment assistance programs and is powered by the world's largest staffing service. Adecco is impressive in their ability to assess one's skills, provide training to reach the next level of expertise, and match a person with a position that utilizes his or her skills."

The company places people in a wide range of positions from clerical, data entry and administrative through technical, financial and light industrial, so spouses who want to take command of their careers may explore a variety of options.

The pilot for Career Accelerator begins on January 17, 2002, at Quantico, Va. and on January 29, 2002, at Jacksonville, Fla., and serves the spouses of Navy and Marine Corps personnel. As Mr. Tate added, "As Career Accelerator proves its success, it will expand to other regions. After all, spouses sign on to the military life, too, so we owe them the opportunity to pursue a career--whether they're looking for their first job or they're ready to climb the career ladder. Another distinct advantage of the program is that once a military spouse 'enlists' with Adecco, vacation and other benefits transfer with them as they change locations."

Debbie Pond-Heide, president of Adecco North America, said, "Adecco is very pleased to partner with the Department of the Navy in developing Career Accelerator. We all know what an important time this is to support our military spouses and help them find rewarding employment. Since matching the right people with the right jobs is Adecco's core competency, we can assist the Department of the Navy in significantly enhancing their career placement services. The largest staffing company in this country, and in the world, Adecco has an integrated network of 1,400 locations in the US, and a total of 5,500 offices in 58 countries. As this program grows, military spouses, no matter where they are stationed, can receive training and placement assistance from an Adecco office nearby."

Adecco has already found placements for several Navy spouses, including Diana Costello in Jacksonville. "As soon as I walked in the door at Adecco, I was put at ease," said Ms. Costello. "After I finished the skill tests and the recruiter determined my computer skill level, she set me up with an interview for the following day. As luck would have it, I got a three-month temporary assignment, which works out perfectly for me. As a Navy wife, I am reassured to know that I can stay with Adecco and get a job virtually anywhere we go."
