Oct. 12 /CSRwire/ - EarthShell Corporation (NASDAQ: ERTH), an environmental packaging technology company, announced today that EarthShell Packaging(R) plates and bowls will be introduced at select Wal-Mart stores in Portland, OR and Baltimore, MD.

The market tests of the plates and bowls are scheduled to begin next month. "This is the first time ever that our products have been made available for retail sale, and we believe that this project will confirm strong consumer interest in EarthShell Packaging," said Vincent J. Truant, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of EarthShell Corporation. "Consumers will have the opportunity to learn more about the environmental attributes and benefits of EarthShell Packaging through informational pamphlets, which will be available with the products on the displays."

EarthShell Packaging qualified for inclusion as one of the environmental products offered by Wal-Mart after successfully meeting quality and performance standards. "We see more than 100 million shoppers every week at Wal-Mart stores, and environmental products are important to a growing number of them," said James Alden, buyer for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. "Wal-Mart is pleased to introduce EarthShell Packaging plates and bowls as an extension of our current line of traditional disposable dinnerware."

EarthShell Corporation remains strongly focused on introducing its products for commercial sale to the food service industry.

EarthShell Packaging has recently been made available through e-commerce to allow smaller businesses to customize their quantities, and EarthShell Corporation reports that by selling through retail outlets, it will simultaneously meet growing consumer demand as well as the needs of its commercial customers.

EarthShell Packaging is environmentally preferable from start to finish. It is made from a new-to-the-world material that consists primarily of abundant limestone and renewable starch. From the gathering of the raw materials, through production, use and disposal, EarthShell Packaging uses less total energy and results in lower greenhouse gas emissions when compared to traditional packaging.

EarthShell Packaging is strong and provides good insulation. Additionally, EarthShell Packaging is 100% biodegradable: like leaves and grass, EarthShell Packaging biodegrades and is recyclable through composting. It biodegrades in marine environments, and because of its biodegradable nature, EarthShell Packaging is also safer for wildlife than traditional food service packaging.

EarthShell Corporation is engaged in the licensing and commercialization of proprietary composite material technology for the manufacture of disposable foodservice packaging, such as cups, plates, bowls, hinged-lid containers, and sandwich wraps.

Compared to traditional foodservice packaging materials, EarthShell Packaging is designed to provide important environmental advantages, while being both cost and performance competitive.
