Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of The Seagram Company Ltd. [NYSE: VO], along with Universal Studios, another Seagram business unit, are once again being recognized as two of the "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" in Working Mother Magazine’s 15th annual report.

Universal has received this honor for four years in a row, and Seagram has been recognized for the second consecutive year. The awards underscore both companies’ commitment to company-wide policies that maximize employee potential in and out of the workplace. Seagram and Universal pursue policies that allow their employees to achieve a positive balance between their career goals and their personal lives.

Commenting on the award, John Borgia, Seagram’s Executive Vice President, Human Resources, said: "Once again, Seagram is honored to join Universal Studios in receiving this important award. Our president and chief executive officer, Edgar Bronfman, Jr., firmly believes in offering our employees family-friendly policies and benefits so that they may enjoy an optimal work/life balance and flexibility. It is gratifying to see that our policies are being recognized. We believe this approach is mutually beneficial, helping us attract and retain the finest talent in our industries - which in turn gives us a definite competitive advantage."

Ken Kahrs, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Universal Studios, added: "We’re thrilled to be honored for the fourth consecutive year. This achievement is directly related to the strong support we receive from Ron Meyer, our president and chief operating officer. As a result of his consistent leadership, our work/life program is an ongoing work in progress that reflects a close partnership with our employees and responds directly to their issues and concerns."

Working Mother chose the year 2000's 100 Best Companies based on six criteria: child care; leave for new parents; flexible work arrangements; work/life benefits, such as elder care and adoption assistance; and opportunities for women to advance. Editors reviewed a range of supportive company offerings, including health insurance premiums, availability of time off for births and adoptions, back-up child care options, mentoring programs and more, such as health club reimbursement, scholarship programs and other convenience services.

Lisa Benenson, Editor In Chief, Working Mother Magazine, remarked that the competition for this year’s honor "was tougher than ever before." She explained that "businesses had to be more creative and proactive in finding ways to accommodate their employees’ work/life needs. For this, their commitment and ingenuity is to be commended."
