CityKi Chooses Netkey for Innovative Kiosk Program for Inner-City Residents

Netkey Inc., the leading provider of enterprise solutions for self-service systems, today announced that CityKi has chosen Netkey software to power its network of free-standing computer kiosks that connect inner-city residents with suburban-brand retailers and quality services via the Internet.

CityKi intends to address the lack of physical retail stores in inner-city neighborhoods by providing consumers with convenient access to a broadband network of free, touch-screen Internet-access kiosks featuring selected merchants, service providers, financial institutions, governmental agencies, and community-generated content.

CityKi recently announced the launch of its first Netkey-powered CityKi kiosk at America's Food Basket, a grocery store serving a largely lower-income neighborhood in Dorchester's Upham's Corner.

CityKi selected Netkey as the self-service technology platform to provide streamlined access to Web-based transactions through an easy-to-use customer interface and to secure and protect the system from hackers and vandals. The Netkey software also supports integration of the kiosk application with credit card readers, cash acceptors and related peripheral devices.

"CityKi is focused on using technology to break down the barriers that prevent inner-city residents from fully participating in the American mainstream economy," said Eric Bobby, founder and CEO of CityKi. "Netkey software makes the complex simple, and allows those who may not have experience with computers to use the CityKi kiosks to access helpful information and services and improve their quality of life."

"Netkey is firm in its belief that self-service kiosk technology brings value by bridging the 'digital divide' that separates those with access to the Internet from those who do not," said Alex Richardson, president and CEO of Netkey. "Self-service kiosks are a powerful solution for providing much-needed information and services to those who need it most, and CityKi is an excellent example of how technology can be used for society's good."
