International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading technology media company, announced today the launch of Biotech, the first publication established to support the rapidly emerging information needs of the fast growing bio-IT market in Sweden. Biotech (http://www.biotech.idg.se) is the Swedish sister publication of Bio-IT World, IDG's newest addition to the recently launched life sciences product line.

"Initiated by the Internet revolution as well as by the nation's very high standards in bioscience research, Sweden has Europe's fourth largest number of biotechnology companies," said Bengt Marnfeldt, general manager of IDG Sweden. "This booming demand for information on the life sciences coupled with an overwhelming interest from the Swedish market sparked IDG to launch this publication."

Scheduled to debut in April with an initial controlled circulation of 20,000, Biotech will be published seven times a year. The publication's mission is to provide the Swedish bioresearch and biobusiness communities with a unique, reader-friendly mix of Swedish and international industry and product news, technology and research reports, business and employment coverage, intellectual property and ethics articles, and guest expert editorials.

Targeted at decision-makers in the bio-IT, pharmaceutical, medical, agricultural and environmental industries, Biotech will cover topics such as medical technology, drug discovery and development, drug delivery, bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, bioproduction, agrobiology, probiotics, neutraceuticals, cosmeticeuticals, and environmental biology. Biotech's editorial team is led by Editor in Chief Fredrik Bernsel and Editor Jan Sandred. Biotech will work with an advisory board consisting of internationally renowned scientists and managers with leadership positions in biotech companies.

"I congratulate IDG to be a pioneer in this very important technological market," said Ph.D. Ingvar Wiberger, CEO of the incubator company SLU Holding AB and a member of Biotech's advisory board. "Sweden is the leading country in biotechnology today and it is very pleasing that IDG Sweden has realized the huge potential in this market."

Established in 1983, IDG Sweden is the country's leading publisher of IT-related information. The company's portfolio of products and services includes fifteen IT and business magazines such as Computer Sweden, MikroDatorn, and Internetworld.
