WASHINGTON, D.C. - The board of directors of the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES) approved United Recycling Industries, Inc. (URI) of West Chicago, Ill., as a new endorser of the CERES Principles at their 2002 conference held here April 17 to 19.

CERES is the leading U.S. coalition of environmental, investor, labor and advocacy groups working together for a sustainable future. The CERES network includes forward- looking companies that have committed to continuous environmental improvement by endorsing the CERES Principles, a ten-point code of environmental conduct.

"United Recycling Industries is a leader in the electronics recycling industry, trying to tackle important problems facing the industry," said Dan Bakal, CERES outreach director. "We recognize its environmental record and look forward to working with URI for continuous improvement."

URI's endorsement of the CERES Principles will help communicate its commitment of environmental responsibility to its customers. The U.S. electronics recycling industry has recently come under fire for the widespread practice of exporting electronic scrap to developing nations, causing tremendous environmental harm. URI has made significant investments in order to provide its clients with an environmentally sound, domestic recycling solution.

Companies endorsing the CERES Principles publicly affirm their environmental responsibility and promise to conduct their businesses in a manner that protects the earth. The Principles encompass a variety of measurable environmental goals such as waste and risk reduction, energy conservation and providing public information.

"Adding the CERES endorsement to our environmental performance portfolio will further communicate URI's commitment to responsible business practices for a clean environment," said Robert Glavin, president of URI.
