Foundation Grant Supports New AmeriCares India Operations
AmeriCares, the international disaster-relief and humanitarian aid organization, established a warehouse and operations in India to expand its geographic reach and improve the availability of medicines to indigent communities and disaster prone areas in the Asia Pacific region thanks in part to a grant from The Baxter International Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Baxter International Inc. The World Health Organization estimates more than two billion people around the world have inadequate access to medicine. Of those, more than one third (700 million people) live in India. AmeriCares, a primary partner in Baxter's product donation humanitarian efforts, delivers critical shipments to areas suffering from natural disasters or political strife. Baxter's partnership with AmeriCares began more than 20 years ago and continues to strengthen, not only through donated products but also with support targeted at critical infrastructure needs in developing countries.
