SAN FRANCISCO -July 9, 2008 - Featuring more than 35 breakout sessions, the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) Conference will highlight pressing leadership challenges such as the return on investment for corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies, new climate change regulations, and how companies can avoid the greenwashing trap. Registration for the BSR Conference, "Sustainability: Leadership Required," Nov. 4-7 at New York's Grand Hyatt, is now open.

BSR is pleased to announce the following Conference sessions:

  • CSR's ROI: Does It Matter? Every company struggles with CSR's return on investment, and this session features three companies using different approaches. The first is that ROI doesn't matter, it's the principle that does. The second is that ROI does matter, and the payback period to the company either renders CSR worthwhile or not. The third is to assess the intangible benefits of a CSR policy in terms of reputation, employee engagement and other perceptions of the brand. (Market Forces Track: 10:30 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Nov. 6.)

  • Regulating Climate Change: The 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Summit is fast approaching, and the impact on companies will be significant. This session covers how companies can contribute to a successful outcome, and how they can navigate through the flood of market solutions developing worldwide as a result of proposed climate change legislation. (Environment Track: 2:30-5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6.)

  • Greenwashing: Hung-Out to Dry: With the upsurge in green advertising, companies now face complaints of false environmental claims. What is "green enough" to warrant claims, and which claims will drive the required consumer behavior to create more demand? This interactive session starts with a debate on the merits and disadvantages of advertising green, and includes a hands-on workshop on boundaries and guidelines for companies in this turbulent area of "green noise." (Market Forces Track: 2:30"“5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6.)
