ATLANTA, Georgia - This Saturday, October 26, the Georgia Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will hold its annual "Walk to Cure Diabetes."

Lanier Worldwide has pledged its support as a Gold Sponsor for the event. And on the day of the walk, over 60 Lanier employees will traverse the 3.1 mile course through the Concourse Office Park.

"We are proud to support the 'Walk to Cure Diabetes,' since it's such an important event for raising funds and raising the profile of research to find a cure," said Vera Arthur, Lanier vice president of human resources. "We're also proud of all the Lanier employees who volunteered to walk. Community involvement is a core value at Lanier, shared by our company and our employees."

"We are expecting more than 5,000 walkers to come out and support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's 'Walk to Cure Diabetes,'" said Pamela Nestor, special events manager for JDRF. "In a typical year, 85 percent of our expenses support research and education about research. Over the past eight years, Lanier has been supporting JDRF and helping us keep our operational costs at a minimum. We appreciate all the support we receive from Lanier."

The Atlanta "Walk to Cure Diabetes" has a fundraising goal of $1.2 million this year. Last year, "Walk to Cure Diabetes" events across the nation raised more than $67 million for diabetes research.
