Silterra Receives ISO 14001 Certification; Company is Committed to World-Class Environmental and Safety Standards

KULIM, Malaysia - Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a premier wafer foundry, today announced that it has been granted ISO 14001 Certification from SIRIM QAS Sdn. Bhd., an engineering consulting firm accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for ISO certification.
Silterra is the first Malaysian foundry to reach this goal. It is also among the fastest to achieve this distinction as a wafer foundry, further demonstrating the company's commitment to world-class environmental and safety standards.
"Our philosophy is to be a good corporate citizen, which is why our facility was designed and built to meet first-rate safety and environmental standards. We have implemented and adhered to a set of very stringent operating guidelines," stated Nara Meyyappan, senior director of operations for Silterra. Silterra is dedicated to being a safe and environmentally friendly foundry for our employees, local communities, customers and investors. Receiving this certification is a major step in that direction."
In order to prepare for the official audit for the certification, Silterra trained each employee on ISO 14001 standards during the course of eight company-organized classes and four workshops. The company was audited in July 2002 and was officially awarded the certification in August.

We benefit from high employee morale and lower operating costs, which also benefit our customers," added Meyyappan.
