NEW YORK, NY & SAN JOSE, Calif. - December 3, 2008 - As part of its commitment to invest $50 million in skills-based pro bono professional services, Deloitte today announced one of its first Silicon Valley pro bono clients, The Tech Museum of Innovation (The Tech), a nonprofit hands-on technology and science museum in San Jose, Calif.

The Tech and Deloitte will team up to develop a new exhibit tentatively called "Choices," which will feature innovative renewable energy technologies that are alternatives to today's fossil-based fuels. The cross-functional Deloitte team will be comprised of consultants who specialize in clean tech, alternative energy and sustainability. Deloitte will assist the The Tech in the conceptualization of the exhibit, help recommend energy resources to be featured and connect The Tech with leading technology innovators to generate ongoing support of the exhibit.

The Tech engages people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and experiencing the technologies affecting their lives, and aims to inspire the innovator in everyone. More than five million guests have visited the premier science and technology center since it opened its doors 10 years ago at the 201 South Market Street facility.

"Silicon Valley is the world's leading incubator for innovation, especially clean tech and renewable energy," said Peter Friess, president of The Tech. "Our goal for the Choices exhibit is to raise awareness of the advanced tools that are being researched and developed in Silicon Valley. We are grateful for Deloitte's critical support toward this end."

The exhibit will feature forefront clean technologies across a number of categories such as solar, wind, hydro, biofuels and geothermal. Each featured technology will give visitors insight into how the technology works, how they are being used today and an understanding of the choices and tradeoffs associated with each technology. Completion is expected in late 2009.

"Clean tech is a primary driver of sustainability from both an energy generation and energy efficiency perspective," said Teresa Briggs, managing partner of Deloitte LLP's Silicon Valley office. "Continued innovation in the development and use of these technologies is essential to 'green collar' job creation, increased venture capital investment into the U.S. market and a sustainable energy future. This pro bono project is a great opportunity for Deloitte to combine our team's collective knowledge of clean tech, our passion for sustainability and our commitment to corporate responsibility and the San Jose community."
