WASHINGTON, D.C.- September 25, 2007 - The World Environment Center (WEC) today announced that Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (ID-Conn.), a leading voice in the U.S. Senate on environmental and national security issues, will deliver an address on "Climate Change and Energy Security: The Search for a Common Solution." Senator Lieberman will speak on September 26 before WEC's Washington Sustainability Forum, a major new initiative designed to advance the dialogue on sustainable development among leaders of business, government, non-governmental and multi-lateral institutions, research organizations and the media in the Washington community.

As Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee's Subcommittee on Private Sector and Consumer Solutions to Global Warming, Senator Lieberman has been a strong advocate of legislation to curb global warming and of legislation to reduce America's dependence on petroleum. In July, he and Senator John Warner (R-Va.) released a discussion draft of their America's Climate Security Act, which they will introduce in September. In May, Senator Lieberman and his co-sponsors succeeded in getting the core elements of their oil savings bill, the Dependence Reduction through Innovation in Vehicles and Energy (DRIVE) Act, passed in the Senate as part of this year's energy bill.

"Senator Lieberman will play a pivotal role, as he does on so many issues, in creating America's future climate change and energy security initiatives. The World Environment Center is delighted that the Senator's remarks will mark the launch of the first public forum in the nation's capital devoted to advancing sustainable development," stated Terry F. Yosie, WEC's President & CEO.

Sponsorship of the Washington Sustainability Forum is provided by The Dow Chemical Company.
