YORK, PA - The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), which is the first and largest national organization dedicated solely to funding clinical and genetic research at outstanding medical centers across the country, received $58,000 from the sales of exclusive merchandise and donations generated at all Bon-Ton stores (NASDAQ: BONT) during the store's "Think Pink" events in 2002.

In May 2002, The Bon-Ton's Mother's Day "Think Pink" event raised $28,000 for BCRF through donations from each sale of a rhinestone necklace and donations made by customers who received a BCRF bookmark and pink ribbon lapel pin. In October 2002, the Breast Cancer Awareness Month "Think Pink" event raised $30,000 for the organization through donations from each sale of custom-designed jewelry items, Wellness Gift Sets and bra fittings, along with donations made by customers who received a complimentary Estee Lauder lipstick or a bookmark and pink ribbon lapel pin.

"We are extremely proud of the donations we were able to make to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 2002," said Frank Tworecke, The Bon-Ton Vice Chairman and Chief Merchandising Officer. "Because of the generosity of our customers, our 'Think Pink' promotions were successful in raising awareness, as well as helping to fund the research to find a cure for this devastating disease. We feel as though we are helping to make a difference in our communities."

"The Estee Lauder Company is proud of and grateful for its partnership with The Bon-Ton and the support that they give to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Our goal is to make people feel they can be proactive, so that they are in charge. Knowledge is power after all," said Evelyn H. Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President, the Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. and Founder and Chairman, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The Bon-Ton will continue its commitment to the BCRF by hosting a "Think Pink" event for Mother's Day 2003.
