LONDON and BRATTLEBORO -- "Research has proven time and time again that there is a business case for CSR Communications... as long as it does in a smart way, which is not always the case," noted Philip Monaghan, senior researcher at AccountAbility. "We've seen that companies that embrace sustainable business initiatives and effectively communicate via a CSR report or other media will see bottom line results in terms of influencing customers and investors as well as organisational learning that boosts business performance."

Monaghan will present new facts on the relationship of business performance to CSR Communications programmes drawn from AccountAbility's extensive research with global enterprises. This presentation will form part of the upcoming conference "Implementing CSR Communications for Business Results" to be held on 24 & 25 February 2004 in London.

In addition to these new research results from AccountAbility's "Impacts of Reporting" project, Monaghan will discuss how to measure the effectiveness of communications programmes and how to monitor and evaluate the performance of CSR communications programmes.

A number of other high profile business leaders will also present at the conference including:

  • Dr Joao Carvalho, Novadelta - Delta Cafes, Director of Corporate Citizenship
  • Roger Cowe, Freelance Business Writer, The Financial Times and The Observer
  • Jenny Dawkins, Head of CSR Research, MORI
  • Joao de Almeida, CEO, Publicampaign
  • John Drummond, CEO, Corporate Culture
  • Michael Hastings, BBC, Head of Corporate Responsibility
  • Raphael Hilbron, Vodafone, Manager of Corporate Affairs
  • Oliver Karius, Sustainable Asset Management (SAM), Manager Research Services
  • Kieron Shaw, Editor, The Business Communicator
  • Liz Tooke, BAA, Head of Corporate Affairs
  • Simon Walker, Director of Corporate Communications, Reuters
  • Hans R. Zulliger, Chairman of Amazys AG and Chair of the Swiss Energy Research Commission

These senior Public Affairs and Communications professionals will talk about the challenges for CSR and corporate communications teams responsible for designing and implementing effective programs. Among the questions addressed: How do we make our communications credible? How do we measure the intangibles to create stakeholder value? How do we gain departmental and employee buy-in? And how do we link branding and marketing strategies to our CSR communications?

These questions will be addressed using real-world tactics and strategies incorporating research, publicity, internal and external communications methods, impact assessments, monitoring and measuring performance, and making the business case to CFOs and the investment community.

The conference is a 2 part event designed for corporate CSR executives and corporate communications professionals and will combine expert presentations with intensive interactive workout sessions where delegates will have the opportunity to discuss their experiences and challenges with like minded peers in a shared learning environment. A second edition of this conference will be held in New Jersey in April 2004. Speakers for the US edition will be announced in December.
