In recognition of Earth Day, the Marshall Foundation is pleased to announce that on Saturday, April 19th they will be planting their 50,000th tree in Palm Beach County. The ceremony will close the third successful planting season at an 11:30 a.m ceremony at the newly dedicated Cypress Trail at Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Boynton Beach, FL. The foundation will also participate in an Earth Day Celebration at the John D. MacArthur Beach State Park on Singer Island, FL, where they will be recognizing the hundreds of volunteers who have planted 50,000 trees in just three seasons.

"Over the past three years we have planted 40 trees in honor and memory of loved ones", said John Marshall, President of the Marshall Foundation. "The 50,000th tree will commemorate the memory of Michael Riccitello. The Marshall Foundation chose to memorialize Michael after receiving a touching letter from his wife Aino who stated "I wish to recognize his love of nature and the wilderness without which we will not have a future'. Michael died on November 10th on his way home from work, from injuries sustained when a careless driver crossed into his lane, according to his wife.

Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin. The first Earth Day led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. Today over 5,000 environmental groups in 184 countries participate in Earth Day activities.

Earth Day is based on the simple philosophy that ordinary people, acting together, can achieve extraordinary things. "Volunteers working with the Marshall Foundation are making a difference in our community and we want to recognize their special efforts during the Earth Day celebrations", stated John Marshall.

The Arthur R. Marshall Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the greater Everglades ecosystem and its storied "River of Grass." Established in 1998, the Foundation considers re-establishment of Florida's ancient cypress forests and the restoration of sheet flow from the Kissimmee River to Florida Bay its prime objectives.

The public is invited to both events. The Refuge is located 1.9 miles South of Boynton Beach Blvd. on Hwy. #441. Macarthur State Park is located at 10900 State Road 703 (A1A).
