The Registry was created by California law as a private nonprofit corporation that helps companies and other organizations to track, publicly report and reduce their emissions of the gases that can lead to global warming. The results are certified by independent organizations to ensure accuracy, and the State of California will work to ensure that participants receive appropriate consideration in any future state, federal or international regulatory scheme governing greenhouse gas emissions. The Registry is supported by businesses, the government and environmental organizations.
“Early movers such as Anderson Lithograph gain valuable experience in measuring and managing their greenhouse gas emissions, often saving them money and improving the efficiency of operations. These are the leaders who will help shape future policies to protect us from the potentially serious impacts of climate change,” said Mary Nichols, Chair of the Registry Board of Directors and California’s Secretary of Resources.
The Registry provides California companies the opportunity to keep pace with their counterparts in other parts of the world, where greenhouse gas emissions are now subject to mandatory reductions and credits traded on an open market. Participants in the Registry are provided a place to protect their early actions in the event of future credit trading opportunities or regulation.
“An inherent part of Anderson Lithograph’s environmental management system is to look for ways to further reduce our negative impact on air quality, “ said Mark Tennant, President and General Manager of Anderson Lithograph, Los Angeles. “The Registry provides the company with the necessary tools and the right forum to take the next steps to better manage our greenhouse gases.”
Anderson Lithograph’s environmental philosophy is based on the use of innovative technology and stringent processes to not just meet, but exceed air pollution regulations to reduce our negative impact on air quality. The company’s success is based on the installation of a natural gas powered Cogeneration system that generates electricity and air-conditioning for the entire facility, and chilled water to operate the presses. In addition, the system was uniquely customized to capture and destroy nearly all fugitive emissions as a secondary fuel source. In 1997, Anderson Lithograph received the certificate for permanent total enclosure (PTE) from the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
