New Children's Book Line Teaches Kids about the Environment and How They Can Protect It

Oct. 07 /CSRwire/ - STAMFORD,CT. - October 7, 2008 - Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB) is proud to announce its partnership with leading publisher Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing to promote Little Green Books, a new eco-friendly line of children's novelty and storybooks aimed at parents and children looking to learn more about the environment.

Under the partnership, Keep America Beautiful will promote the series both online and through its network of over 580 affiliate organizations nationwide. KAB affiliates' missions include community education, encompassing both classroom and out-of-classroom learning experiences. Little Green Books will serve as an important tool in their outreach.

The inside back covers of "Little Green Books" include messages from Keep America Beautiful, stressing that "a greener world starts with kids who care." Both KAB and Simon & Schuster will collaborate to provide additional resources, tips, activities, and kid-friendly materials to their audiences.

"Educating the next generations of environmental stewards is critical to our mission to prevent litter, reduce waste, and beautify our nation’s public spaces," said Matthew M. McKenna, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful. "We're thrilled to be allied with Simon and Schuster's Little Green Books, empowering kids to preserve and protect the environment through their daily choices and actions."

The theme of Little Green Books focuses on improving the environment and preserving habitats, aiming to get little ones and their parents interested in going green. From recycling and replanting to creating an awareness of endangered animals and much more, Little Green Books plant the seeds for earth-friendly living at an early age. Each book in the series will be made out of recycled materials and printed with soy ink and will include tips for kids on what they can do to become more "green," as well as a Hey, Kids! Did you know...? fact on the back of every cover.

Little Green Books launched in September 2008 with four titles:

  • I Can Save the Earth!: One Little Monster Learns to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – The story of Max, a little green monster, and his journey from being a wasteful "environmental nightmare" to environmental awareness.
  • The Polar Bears' Home: A Story About Global Warming – A father and daughter learn about polar bears, and how they can reduce global warming through conservation.
Little Panda and Little Monkey: Little ones will love to cuddle with these super soft fleece cloth books that are made out of cotton and recycled Polartec(R) fleece.
Forthcoming releases include "The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle: A Story about Recycling," scheduled for January ’09 release.
