London, UK - CEILE, the Central European Institute for Leadership and Ethics, is a pioneering new business ethics organisation based in Budapest with ambitions to embed corporate responsibility combined with values based leadership in enterprises across Central Europe. Launched in October 2003, CEILE has received a seed funding commitment over at least two years from British American Tobacco Hungary and has affiliations with three other British business organisations: the British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (BCCH) where its office is housed; the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE), London - its professional mentor, and GoodCorporation, London whose corporate responsibility standard and verification service will be provided under licence by CEILE.

CEILE held its first Budapest seminar, run by IBE, on Developing and Implementing a Code of Business Ethics in Budapest on 29 October. Amongst the major corporations and government ministries that attended the event were OTP Bank, MOL, Hungary’s largest oil and gas company, KPMG and Interware, Hungary’s major high speed ISP.

Several private companies from the marketing and industrial sector have approached CEILE about conducting corporate responsibility verifications using the CEILE/GoodCorporation standard. Public sector organisations also have expressed interest in developing codes of conduct and business ethics training courses under CEILE’s guidance. While focusing on Hungary in its first year, CEILE aims to build a business network across Central Europe from 2005 onwards.

CEILE’s Operation Director Geoff Skippage and Home Director Istvan Elter have spent a combined thirty years developing values based leadership and military ethics education for armed forces particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. Geoff Skippage is a former Royal Engineer officer. Istvan Elter is a leading Hungarian businessman and the official government Hungarian/Arabic translator. Training Director Victor Dobbin was formerly Chaplain General of the British Army and now specialises in values based leadership in Business and the professions. Judit Sinka was for ten years with the Training Division of MATAV Hungary’s main telecommunications company.
