Unique Governance Conference Looks at the Future of Boards

CHICAGO, IL - Two hundred delegates from around North America and overseas will gather in Chicago next week to enhance their governance capabilities at The Future of Boards: Realizing the Promise of Owner-Accountability. Presented by the International Policy Governance Association, the conference features a keynote address by world renowned governance expert and designer of the Policy Governance® system, Dr. John Carver, and by Jeremy Booker, VP - Corporate Governance of BP (British Petroleum), who will speak about the application of Policy Governance® principles in the business world.

The Policy Governance® system for boards has been widely used by non-profit organizations and is now receiving attention within the business sector, where, in the wake of the Enron, WorldCom, and other corporate governance fiascos, the need for an owner-accountable system for governance is becoming more and more obvious.

"Until recently," says IPGA Chair, Caroline Oliver, "the job of the corporate director has been woefully overlooked. Policy Governance® is a unique framework of principles that directors can use to organize all of the corporation's affairs, to govern with full accountability, and to add value to the bottom line."

The conference also features a plenary panel presentation by knowledgeable and experienced speakers from the corporate, non-profit and public sectors - Ed Maier, Olan Hendrix, and J. Patrick Boyer - who will answer the question, "What are the forces you see impacting boards today, and how are boards likely to change, if at all?"

Miriam Carver will be opening the conference with an address about the transformational effect of Policy Governance® and its spread, and delegates will participate in a variety of interactive workshops about myriad governance-related subjects including ethics, the monitoring process, how to sustain good governance and ownership linkage.

"Conference participants will experience increased interest, understanding, and motivation around the possibilities that emerge when boards choose owner-accountable, effective governance," says IPGA CEO, Howard Stier. "Anyone interested in leading-edge governance theory and practice must make a point of participating in The Future of Boards!"
