Paths to Sustainability in Supply Chain Management

Copenhagen - As globalisation has increased both supply chain complexity and the pressure on companies to do the right thing, the Nordic Partnership launches a new self-assessment tool. The Nordic Partnership SSCM Self Diagnostic builds on a unique multi-stakeholder project to provide a source of inspiration for companies considering sustainable supply chain management (SSCM).

As most companies operating on global or local markets are both suppliers and customers, there is an increasing social awareness and expectation of how they go about buying, selling and producing their goods or services. The new SSCM Diagnostic is a flexible and non-prescriptive instrument that helps both large and small companies to set their ambitions for SSCM, according to the company's abilities and resources. The tool also illustrates the pitfalls and barriers, both internally and externally from stakeholders or the market.

"The benefits of sustainable supply chain management are numerous."said Nordic Partnership Managing Director, Michael Brinch-Pedersen. "It can help your company to minimise risks, improve performance and operational efficiency. But you don't have to be a large, branded multi-national to be able to start thinking about SSCM. This tool will help you find the right approach and level of ambition for your company."

The SSCM Self-Diagnostic builds on the day-to-day practical experience of leading Nordic businesses, NGOs, consultancies and academics, with case studies from companies such as Novo Nordisk A/S, Novozymes A/S, ITT Flygt, Danisco A/S and Brdr. Hartmann A/S. The tool is part of a series of Nordic Partnership SSCM services, created to help you navigate the jungle of approaches and concerns you need to take account of. It provides a clear and simple outline of your particular business' issues, and the most appropriate SSCM approach or approaches for your organisation.

Developed in a process involving multi-stakeholder collaboration and discussion at workshops and seminars, the SSCM Diagnostic will be useful even for those companies who already have a sustainable supply chain management system. Working through the self-diagnostic material will renew your overview of both your own approach and others available to you, helping to further develop your current methods.
