DARMSTADT - Small and medium companies (SMEs) have the power to create sustained growth worldwide. The e5 Sustainable Energy Accelerator (e5-SEA) improves the chances of SMEs in the sustainable energy sector to increase market presence, generate employment and enhance security of energy supplies. The European Business Council for Sustainable Energy (e5) presented its new project on the occasion of the International Business Exchange Forum Renewable Energies today in Augsburg, Germany.

The e5-SEA takes promising SMEs of the renewable energy industry into a growth-oriented programme. Its cornerstones are an online virtual marketplace, access to investment capital and all the consulting services required for sound business development. "With the accelerator approach, we want to help qualified sustainable energy SMEs achieve high profitability and a sound global market position - effectively and fast", said Dr. Lutz-Guenther Scheidt, e5 board member, at the presentation of the e5-SEA in Augsburg.

The e5-SEA is based on a decentralised structure, with a comprehensive database and nationally managed windows worldwide. SMEs, service providers and investors form a project-focused network resulting in synergies that benefit all participants. The e5-SEA delivers customised service packages for client companies, ensured client credibility for service providers, and early notification of pioneering business opportunities for investors. "In the US, the accelerator model has proven successful. With our well-established SME tradition in Europe, the e5-SEA offers high business development potential for SMEs, first in Europe, then world-wide", stated Scheidt. "To successfully tackle the problem of climate change, the promotion of sustainable energy is a must - and the e5-SEA an intelligent tool".

e5, the European Business Council for Sustainable Energy (www.e5.org) is a non-profit organisation representing the climate protection-related business interests of approximately 120 companies and organisations from across Europe and America. e5's conviction is that proactive sustainable energy and climate protection policies offer the European economy immense advantages and possibilities. At e5, "Climate is business".
