Toronto's Mayor, David Miller, will be presenting his vision for sustainable urban economies on the first day of the upcoming Environment and Energy Conference (EECO 2005), which takes place May 25-27, 2005 in Toronto.

Mayor Miller has shown commitment to the environment and, in his proposed 2005 budget, has announced $16 million in new and enhanced services for the first phase of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) user growth strategy, and the second phase of the Clean City Beautiful City program. His plan also takes into account the full $92 million available to the City from the provincial gas tax and $105 million from hydro revenue.

ECCO 2005 is one of the most powerful economic and business summits in the Great Lakes Region, bringing together major players from the local economy to discuss issues critical to competitiveness in the region. During the event, Mayor Miller will also discuss the development of environment and energy markets and the demand for technologies in major urban areas, alongside public policymakers and other prominent leaders from private businesses. The Forum will officially launch the conference and provide a starting point for the four key conference themes: Eco-Efficiency, Environment and Energy Technologies, Cities, and Canada-US Dialogue. A fifth track devoted to special EECO sessions, such as a Spotlight on Lake Erie's Economy and Environment, is an additional arena for lively discussion.

The final day of the conference will be highlighted by the 4th Annual GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence, sponsored by the GLOBE Foundation and The Globe and Mail, and presented at the EECO Gala Luncheon. These prestigious awards are presented to extraordinary Canadian companies and industry groups who have demonstrated leadership in sustainable business strategies within Canada and around the world.

EECO, May 25-27 2005, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, Canada. For more information, please visit www.eeco2005.com.
