Fairfax, VA--The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) today announced a grant from the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) to establish the MCCA Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship program for college seniors entering law school, with a particular interest in corporate law.

The MCCA will award 10 scholarships at $10,000 per year, for up to three years; a total commitment of $30,000 per student. In addition, approximately 3-5 finalists will receive a one-time gift of $10,000 for their participation in the application process. MCCA also intends to foster summer internship placement and mentoring opportunities for selected scholars. Candidates must be U.S citizens, financially disadvantaged, provide proof of acceptance into an accredited law school, demonstrate high academic achievement and community service, possess leadership qualities, and have an interest in corporate law and diversity.

"The Lloyd M. Johnson Scholarship, Jr. Program is an excellent opportunity for exceptional law students who want to make a difference in our corporate justice system", says Dr. Michael Lomax, President and CEO of UNCF. "We are truly thankful to MCCA for its contributions and commitment to providing educational and experiential opportunities to deserving minority students", he adds. The MCCA Lloyd M. Johnson Scholarship, Jr. will be awarded to students beginning in the fall of 2005.

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) was founded in 1997 to advocate for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA accomplishes its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession.
