Silver Spring, Maryland - July 5, 2007 "“ MSN.com has offset the emissions of its Windows Live Spaces Eco Trip (www.liveearth.msn.com) through a partnership with the non-profit Carbonfund.org Foundation. A four-member team is currently riding from Seattle to New York by train, bikes and a high efficiency vehicle to meet up with farmers, green businesses and other friends to raise awareness about Global Climate Change. Their well documented trip, (which can be viewed at spacesecotrip.spaces.live.com/) terminates at the New York Live Earth 07 concert on July 7. This practical step highlights MSN.com's commitment to be a leader in the fight against global warming and highlights the values of Live Earth.

"Carbonfund.org commends MSN.com’s commitment to reduce what carbon emissions they can through high-efficiency modes of transportation and offsetting the rest," said Carbonfund.org executive director Eric Carlson. "MSN.com's Eco Trip illustrates a commitment by the private sector to make the problem of climate change a priority and epitomizes Carbonfund.org’s motto: Reduce what you can; offset what you can’t."

Live Earth is a 24-hour, 7-continent series of 9 concerts taking place on 7/7/07 that will bring together more than 100 music artists and 2 billion people to inspire a global movement to "Answer the Call" and combat the climate crisis.

Live Earth will provide over 100 simple actions and tools that, if applied on a mass scale, will have a massive impact on combating the climate crisis. More importantly, Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by the Alliance for Climate Protection and other international NGOs to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve global warming. Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore is the Chair of the Alliance for Climate Protection and Partner of Live Earth.

Carbonfund.org is a non-profit organization whose goal is to make carbon offsets and climate protection easy, affordable and a normal way of life for every individual and business. Carbon offsets enable individuals and businesses to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in one location, where it is cost effective, to offset the emissions they are responsible for in their normal activities, like home, office, driving or air travel emissions. For instance, a clean, zero CO2 wind farm can offset the carbon dioxide produced by a coal-fired power plant. By supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation projects Carbonfund.org will retire an equivalent amount of carbon offsets. The financial support from these offsets will then help to continue the development of clean, renewable domestic sources of energy.
