NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2007--On Tuesday, April 24, the Fundacion Cisneros signed an agreement with the Costa Rican Ministries of Public Education and of Culture, Youth, and Sports, and with the nonprofit organization AccionArte, to initiate the Fundacion Cisneros program Think Art in Costa Rican schools. Present at the signing were Costa Rica President Oscar Arrias Sanchez; Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, Co-founder and Chairman, Fundacion Cisneros; Jody Steiger, President, AccionArte; Maria Elena Carballo, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports; and Leonardo Garnier, Minister of Public Education, Costa Rica.

Think Art is the flagship visual-arts education program of the Coleccion Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC), a distinguished art collection whose nucleus is modern and contemporary Latin American art. To date, it has been offered in Argentina, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Mexico. The agreement with Costa Rica marks the first time that the program has officially entered a national curriculum.

Think Art focuses on works from the CPPC and is developed in collaboration with international cultural and educational institutions. Educators learn to use artworks, combined with relevant contextual information, as the basis for highly structured discussions that build the skills of observation, expressive language, and creative and critical thinking. The program, which includes reproductions of works of art from Costa Rican cultural institutions; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Coleccion Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, will be implemented and developed in Costa Rica in conjunction with AccionArte, which encourages the use of the arts in public and private schools in that country.

The Caracas and New York City-based Fundacion Cisneros initiates and administers innovative programs and partnerships that focus on education and culture. All Fundacion Cisneros initiatives are based on the belief that education and freedom of expression are the foundations of a democratic society. www.fundacion.cisneros.org
