National Safety Council to Present the Award at Spring 2008 Gala

Oct. 22 /CSRwire/ - CHICAGO - October 22, 2007 - The National Safety Council has announced Delta Air Lines as the 2008 Green Cross for Safety Medal recipient. The announcement was made at the Council's 95th Annual Congress & Expo opening session Monday, Oct. 15 being held here.

Established in 1999, the Green Cross for Safety Medal recognizes organizations and their leadership for outstanding achievements in safety and health, community service and responsible citizenship. Superior work to advance safety and health with practices consistent with the mission of the National Safety Council are essential to selection for the award.

The selection of Delta Air Lines, the United States' fastest growing international airline with more than 47,000 U.S. employees, was based on its exemplary commitment to safety that reaches back to 1929 when the company conducted its first passenger flights.

"Delta Air Lines has demonstrated a safety culture and record that reflect a top-down approach to safety and health that begins in the boardroom and is shared by every employee, from corporate leadership to the flight crews," said Alan C. McMillan, National Safety Council president and CEO.

"We put people first, Delta people and Delta customers," said Richard H. Anderson, chief executive officer of Delta Air Lines. "It is our commitment to take the best possible care of Delta customers and each other while running a safe, highly professional and financially viable operation."

The National Safety Council will present Delta Air Lines with the Green Cross for Safety Medal at a special recognition dinner held in spring 2008. For more information go to development@nsc.org.

Past recipients of the National Safety Council's Green Cross for Safety Medal include: UPS, DuPont, Liberty Mutual Group, Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler, Kenny Construction Company, Ryder Systems Inc., Intel Corporation, and AK Steel Corporation.
