Madison, WI - April 6, 2009 - Leonardo Academy announces a call for applications for open seats on the LEO 8000-200x Sustainable Gaming Standards Committee within the 'User' Interest Category. Anyone who uses gaming products-including retailers, casino and cruise ship operators, product handlers, distributors and end users-and has an interest in sustainable gaming is encouraged to apply.

The LEO 8000-200x Standards Committee has been charged with developing a comprehensive framework and common set of sustainability metrics that assess environmental, social, and economic performance at all levels of the gaming industry supply and delivery chain and encourage continuous improvement in overall sustainability performance. Key components to be explored in the standard development process include energy use and emission reductions, as well as the procurement and use of more sustainable materials throughout the supply chain.

The current Standards Committee consists of a diverse, experienced membership representing a wide range of perspectives towards creating a sustainable gaming industry. Representatives from gaming equipment component manufacturers, electricity/energy providers, gaming equipment distributors, industry associations, as well as government agencies, academics, regulators, and certifiers came together at the Committee's first meeting on April 3rd, 2009 to discuss the key issues likely to dominate the discussions in the process ahead. The Committee also agreed on a number of positive actions, including the recognition of the Leonardo Academy Draft Standard for Sustainable Slot Machines as a vehicle for initiating the broader standard-setting dialogue, as one of several reference documents expected to be used in its future standards development deliberations.

Developing a Standard for Sustainable Gaming
A national standard for Sustainable Gaming is being developed to demonstrate that a slot machine has been produced and handled in a sustainable manner, from materials used through production, distribution for sale and utilization. Working within an open consensus process, this initiative is intended to provide a forum for discussing and vetting differences over what sustainability means across the many sectors of the gaming industry and to capture the collective wisdom of pioneering individuals and organizations in the realm of sustainable gaming.

How to Apply
To receive an application for the Standards Committee, please contact John Rodgers at Leonardo Academy (Tel: 608-280-0255, Email: jrodgers@leonardoacademy.org). PLEASE NOTE that only applications for the User Interest Category will be considered at this time.

Applications should be submitted by 5:00 pm (CDT) on Monday, May 4th, 2009. All applicants will be notified of their committee status by Thursday, May 7th, 2009.
