BOSTON, MA - January 14, 2008 "“ ACCION International, a pioneer and leader in microfinance, today announced that it has been chosen as one of 50 nonprofit organizations to receive donations raised in 2008 by CREDO Mobile, a service of Working Assets, a mobile, long distance and credit card provider that is described as one of the most powerful citizen-action groups in the United States.

CREDO members nominate organizations to receive donations raised through their purchases. By giving a portion of customers' charges, members have generated over $50 million for progressive organizations since 1985.

ACCION International’s mission is to give people the financial tools they need to work their way out of poverty. By providing 'micro' loans, financial services and business training to poor men and women who start their own businesses, ACCION and its partner microfinance organizations help people work their own way up the economic ladder, with dignity and pride.

"We are grateful to CREDO for recognizing the power and potential of microfinance to combat global poverty, and for recognizing ACCION as a worthy steward of their philanthropy," said María Otero, president and CEO of ACCION. "These donations will help us to deliver financial services to an even greater number of working poor around the world."
