BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 6, 2007--The Cannery, a Los Angeles-based interactive agency, and The Advertising Council, the leading producer of public service advertisements (PSAs), launched the newly redesigned and more robust U.S. Department of Health and Human Services web site targeted toward childhood obesity prevention (www.smallsteps.gov/kids).

"The new Small Steps Kids web site was clearly envisioned with the children's audience in mind," says Barbara Shimaitis, Senior Vice President of The Advertising Council. "Our goal was to leverage the expertise of HHS, the powerful draw of DreamWorks' Shrek character, and the ingenuity of The Cannery's creative and technical skills to really make a difference in childhood obesity."

The Cannery developed the Small Steps web site to provide a more user-friendly design for children as well as to get them thinking about healthy eating and exercise through an innovative combination of interactive games, creative design, and expert content. All of which was bolstered by the infusion of the Shrek characters to help make things fun for kids.

"The Small Steps web site is a perfect example of The Cannery's ability to combine entertainment and education for a positive outcome," says Doug Textor, chief executive officer of The Cannery. "We look forward to continued development of progressive, interactive solutions for The Advertising Council."
