PowerFile Joins The Green Grid Consortium

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2007--PowerFile Inc., an innovator in archive appliances for permanent storage of digital content and assets, today announced its membership in The Green Grid, a global consortium of companies dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and computing ecosystems.

Membership in The Green Grid is reserved for end users and technology suppliers that seek to provide industry-wide recommendations or best practices, metrics and technologies that address global energy consumption issues. The technology-driven organization strives for real results with all consortium members working together to find a solution.

"As more and more organizations struggle with requirements associated with maintaining growing levels of data, energy and management expenses continue to climb to points that are costly from both an economic and environmental standpoint," said Jonathan Buckley, Vice President of Marketing for PowerFile. "By joining The Green Grid we are able to address the issue of energy efficiency in a positive, proactive manner, working with others to continue developing environmentally friendly solutions for the data center. PowerFile anticipates it will announce different utility-provided rebate programs in North America in the coming months for the adoption of PowerFile's cleaner and greener solutions so that customers will not only be able to earn a financial rebate, but can be a good global citizen at the same time."

With data centers consuming as much as 50 times the electricity as standard office spaces, they are prime candidates for the implementation of energy reduction measures. Archival storage options that use cheap disk systems can be prohibitively expensive over time as the amount of power needed to spin and cool these systems for five years approaches 50 percent of the total original purchase price. Depending on the data center, each rack of these "cheap" disks can cost more than $2,000 per month to run with companies paying millions of dollars each year to run their data centers 24/7. Archival storage solutions from PowerFile use less than 5 percent of this total power for substantial savings and improved energy efficiency.

PowerFile's archive appliances fit well within any enterprise that has adopted an information lifecycle approach and has created storage tiers where slower moving data can reside with greater economy and permanence. PowerFile's special purpose network attached storage appliances complement existing storage infrastructure by offloading disk-based primary or near-line systems that are currently used to store fixed content. PowerFile's new Active Archive Appliance (A3) is built from the ground up to offer the longevity, rapid retrieval and cost efficiency needed for active archiving of valuable fixed content. PowerFile's Permanent Storage Appliance (PSA) is an easy-to-install, non-disruptive, scalable, turnkey appliance.
