LOS ANGELES, CA and FRAMINGHAM, MA - November 27, 2007 - GreenXchange LLC today announced that several prominent executives from Japan, and leading Japanese affiliated organizations in southern California including Sumitomo Electric, Honda Research & Development Americas, Inc., Sharp Electronics Corporation, Toyota, and more, will be presenting at next month's GreenXchange Global Marketplace Conference. These presenters will focus on both the growing number of corporate environmental initiatives growing out of Japan and the comprehensive policy measures that have helped the nation successfully reduce their primary energy consumption and carbon emissions. The inaugural conference is scheduled to take place December 10-11, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

"Japan has made dramatic progress in energy efficiency over the decades and because of that, we have played a leading role in the fight against climate change," said Tadashi Maeda, Director General, Energy and Natural Resources Finance Department, Japan Bank for International Cooperation. "This conference gives us a platform with which we can reach out to a wide representation of constituents in economic and social policy who are already involved, or seeking to become more involved, in helping to reduce the world’s carbon footprint."

At the event, presenters will discuss the market-leading environmental technologies being made available throughout the world by Japan-affiliated firms, and relatively successful and comprehensive policy measures promoted by all levels of Japanese government.

Speakers include:

  • Mr. Randy Truby, Chief Executive Officer, Toray Membrane USA, Inc.
  • Dr. Ryosuke Hata, Managing Executive Officer, Sumitomo Electric
  • Mr. Ben Knight, Vice President, Automotive Engineering, Honda Research & Development Americas, Inc.
  • Mr. Paul Wormser, Senior Director of Product Development & System Solutions, Solar Energy Solutions Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation
  • Mr. Justin Ward, Engineer, Toyota Motors Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.

One of the most anticipated sessions will be led by the Hon. Kazuo Kodama, Consul General of Japan, who will moderate a panel entitled "Post Kyoto Protocols." Panelists include Tadashi Maeda, Director General - Energy and Natural Resources Finance Department, Japan Bank for International Cooperation; Daniel Dudek, Chief Economist, Environmental Defense; Bob Pierce, British Consul-General, Los Angeles, Foreign & Commonwealth Office; and John Clarkson, Deputy Minister of the Department of Manitoba Science, Technology, Province of Manitoba.

In many respects, Japan is leading the way in addressing climate change issues. Japan has one of the lowest levels of per-capita energy consumption of all countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and has the least "carbon-intense" economy amongst all G-8 nations. Compared to the United States, Japan emits about one-half of the carbon per unit of GDP output, yet has managed to maintain a manufacturing sector which is, as a portion of GDP output, over two and a half times as large as that of the US. Efficiencies are promoted at every level of society, from the manufacturing and transportation sectors to recycling efforts in every neighborhood, home, workplace and school room. Additionally, because of aggressive government support, Japan now accounts for half of total global photovoltaic production and installed capacity, according to Kanagawa Prefecture-based New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization.
