ALPHARETTA, Ga., June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ChoicePoint(R)
(NYSE: CPS) has been honored by Points of Light Institute with the 2008 Excellence in Workplace Volunteer Programs award. ChoicePoint was recognized for the creation of the ADAM (Automated Delivery of Alerts on Missing Children), for providing discounted background screening services to the non-profit sector and for the employee volunteer organization,ChoicePoint Cares, that donated more than 6,000 hours of service to hundreds of community volunteer projects throughout the United States.

"ChoicePoint's core mission is to provide a safer, more secure society through the responsible use of information," said Derek V. Smith, chairman and CEO of ChoicePoint. "We are committed to serving our communities by providing our technologies, information and analytics to nonprofit organizations so that they have the necessary tools to make informed decisions in their effort to fulfill their individual causes," said Smith.

ChoicePoint employees volunteered their time to develop ADAM, which was then donated to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) to increase the chances of safely recovering missing children. ADAM uses fax technology to distribute missing child posters to police, news media, schools, businesses, medical centers and other recipients within a specific geographic search area, such as a state, ZIP code, area code or a combined search area near a city and ZIP code. To date, 100 children have been returned to their families.

ChoicePoint partners with nonprofit organizations who serve vulnerable populations, by offering low-cost volunteer background screening to youth-serving and other nonprofit organizations and is the preferred background screening provider for the National Human Services Assembly, Little League International, Boy Scouts of America, National CASA and thousands of other nonprofits around the country that are diligently protecting the people they serve.

A recent ChoicePoint audit of more than 3.7 million completed background screenings, found more than 189,000 individuals who had at least one criminal conviction attempted to gain employment or volunteer with a nonprofit organization.

ChoicePoint's corporate commitment to volunteerism also continues with ChoicePoint Cares volunteers who receive one day or eight hours per year in paid time off to volunteer with nonprofits of their choice. In 2007, more than 6,000 volunteer hours were donated to projects with Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, YWCA, and many others.

The awards, in their 15th year, honor a business' overall employee volunteer effort, including the actual service projects, program policies and corporate vision that support those volunteer activities. Other winners include The Walt Disney Company, Booz Allen Hamilton and Genworth Financial.
