OVERLAND PARK, KA –Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS) today announced that Chief Diversity Officer David P. Thomas will receive a 2003 CareerFOCUS Eagle AwardTM, presented by the National Eagle Leadership InstituteTM (NELI). Thomas is one of 17 minority business leaders in the United States to receive this national award, which salutes corporate diversity and the men and women who are changing the face of leadership in corporate America.

The CareerFOCUS Eagle Award is the nation’s premier leadership achievement award for African-American and Hispanic/Latino professionals who excel in both business and community leadership from coast to coast. NELI and CareerFOCUS Magazine(TM) present this coveted award to individuals who practice principled leadership and uphold the highest standards of dignity, integrity and honor in their work.

Thomas received this award because of his strong corporate and community leadership and will be recognized on Nov. 6, 2003, at the 10th annual Eagle Awards in Los Angeles. As an Eagle Award recipient, Thomas will serve a two-year term on the NELI Advisory Board, where he will guide the growth and development of the Institute’s leadership program.

“This is a very special honor and I am humbled by the recognition and the opportunity,” said Thomas. “With this award comes a redoubled commitment on my part to be a positive role model and contributor to the advancement and leadership development of Hispanic/Latino and African-American professionals. In his position as chief diversity officer at Sprint, Thomas is responsible for managing Sprint’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, including leading efforts to effectively address the business challenges and opportunities related to multicultural markets, diverse talent and organizational effectiveness. He will also direct the Corporate Diversity Council, which will be chaired by Gary D. Forsee, chief executive officer, Sprint.

In addition to his work at Sprint, Thomas is a member of the Conference Board’s Contributions Council and a board member of The Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College. He is also on the boards of directors of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City and the Kansas City Area Development Council.
