MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (MARKET WIRE) - December 19, 2008 - Bombardier Inc.
(TSX: BBD.A) (TSX: BBD.B) released today its first company-wide corporate responsibility report, Ingenuity+. This report presents Bombardier's approach to sustainability, its efforts and achievements, along with areas needing improvement. It follows the G3 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and is consistent with the United Nations Global Compact.

"At Bombardier, sustainability means balancing long-term and profitable growth with the responsible management of our impact on communities, the environment and the economy. We design and manufacture products that help address some of the most urgent issues of our time, including climate change and urban congestion, and the need for sustainable modes of transportation," said Pierre Beaudoin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. "We are leaders in both aerospace and rail transportation, and we are committed to achieving the same status in corporate responsibility."

The report covers the key sustainability issues in Bombardier's two industries-aerospace and rail transportation-and includes the following highlights:

  • Bombardier launched a company-wide Supplier Code of Conduct, which is consistent with the United Nations Global Compact. By signing it, suppliers commit to high labour standards and to self-audit their performance regularly with regard to human rights and child labour, health, safety, environment and governance standards, anti-corruption behaviour and ethics.

  • With renewable energy sources, energy efficiency practices and process modifications, Bombardier has achieved the five-year reduction targets it set for itself in 2003 for water and energy consumption, and is on track to meet its overall 15% reduction objective for greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Bombardier Aerospace meets its customers' need for fuel-efficient aircraft with lower emissions and reduced noise levels by offering a portfolio of sustainable products such as the Q400 NextGen turboprop and CRJ NextGen regional jet, and through the development of such innovative aircraft as the game-changing CSeries.

  • Bombardier Transportation's ECO4 suite of solutions, services, products and technologies offers the best-in-class environmental performance and can create an overall energy savings of up to 50%. Solutions range from planning energy efficiency of new transportation systems and new aerodynamically enhanced train designs to optimizing the energy consumption of an existing fleet.
Bombardier's first company-wide corporate responsibility report represents another step forward in a long journey. The full text of the report is available online at www.bombardier.com.

As an illustration of the progress it accomplished, Bombardier was recognized as one of the 10 Canadian Climate Disclosure Leaders in its category on the basis of its superior levels of transparency in the Carbon Disclosure Project 2008 - Canada 200 Report. The Climate Disclosure Leadership Ranking includes the companies with the highest scores and provides a perspective on the range and quality of responses to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) questionnaire. The purpose of this ranking is to highlight companies with exceptional performance on corporate climate change related transparency.

The CDP is an independent not-for-profit organization that acts as an intermediary between shareholders and corporations on all climate change related issues. It promotes a dialogue between institutional investors and senior corporate management in relation to climate change and encourages private and public sector organizations to measure, manage and reduce emissions and climate change impacts.
