NAPA, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Did you know that over a 50-year lifetime, one tree will generate $31,250 worth of oxygen, provide $62,000 worth of air pollution control, recycle $37,500 worth of water and control $31,250 worth of soil erosion?

These facts, provided by the Arbor Day Foundation, are just some of the reasons why Tangley Oaks, the California winery that brings together the best grapes from the state's finest appellations, is working with the Foundation to make it deliciously easy for you to plant a tree.

Tangley Oaks announced today it will plant a tree for each bottle of the wine sold on Arbor Day, April 24. So a tree gets planted and your hands don't even dirty - unless you count that drop of Tangley Oaks Napa Valley Merlot that dribbled on them. In addition, on Arbor Day, Tangley Oaks will hold complimentary wine tastings at retail locations around the country. Consumers will have the chance to taste how Tangley Oaks creates luxury-quality wines that can be appreciated every day, and up to 2,500 saplings will be given free to participants to plant on their own.

"The trees that Tangley Oaks is planting will make a wonderful impact in the world," said John Rosenow, chief executive and founder of the Arbor Day Foundation. "By planting and distributing trees around the country, Tangley Oaks is helping to create a healthier planet. Trees clean the air, clean waterways, provide habitat for wildlife and provide shade for everyone to enjoy."

The Arbor Day activities by Tangley Oaks are part of a larger relationship between the winery and the Arbor Day Foundation, the nonprofit organization that inspires people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. Over the course of the next year, Tangley Oaks will devote a percentage of its profits to planting up to 10,000 trees through the Arbor Day Foundation.

The initiatives were inspired by Tangley Oaks consumers' shared concern for the environment and their desire to make a positive contribution - and are a celebration of the winery's own connection to trees. Like the great oaks that dot the hills surrounding California's great wine valleys, Tangley Oaks wines represent an enduring legacy in California, matching classic vine varieties to regions recognized for their unique ability to birth fine wine.

For decades, Napa Valley has been a premier appellation for the Bordeaux varieties. Its climate and soil offer ideal conditions to produce high-quality fruit, and the Tangley Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot both show classic Napa power and grace. Santa Barbara County holds the same prestige when it comes to producing Chardonnay. Cool ocean breezes channeled into the county's east-west valleys produce fruit that is comparable to the best of Burgundy. Tangley Oaks Chardonnay is marked by its crisp acidity and an elegance that is widely embraced among white wine enthusiasts.
