Clinton, IA. - April 17, 2009 - With Earth Day 2009 quickly approaching, Molded Fiber, a UFP Technologies brand, announced today that is has improved its capabilities with after-pressed, fine-finish molded pulp protective packaging. With a growing demand from consumer goods manufacturers for "green" packaging that is also aesthetically pleasing, Molded Fiber is striving to achieve greater effectiveness in providing quality solutions in this arena.

Molded Fiber's Product Manager, Steve McLaughlin, says that there is a continuing movement by many large companies to move towards packaging that is more easily recycled by end users. "Molded Fiber is made from recycled new print and it can be placed into recycling bins found in common curbside recycling programs," McLaughlin states. "Recyclability" has always been a feature of molded pulp packaging, but as of late, these large companies are looking for more than just protective packaging.

A large portion of Molded Fiber's business has been focused on designing and manufacturing interior protective packaging solutions. A number of cost effective molded pulp interior packaging solutions have been created for consumer electronics items and light industrial equipment. Molded Fiber has worked to expand its manufacturing and design capabilities to service exterior packaging applications.

McLaughlin notes, "With our after-pressing capabilities, we can deliver parts to our customers made from 100% post consumer recycled material that are also attractive enough to be featured on retail shelves as the primary package." He also says that this is quite a change from the days when customers were looking to hide any gray molded pulp packaging used to protect parts inside a carton. Companies are recognizing a change in consumers' perceptions and awareness on how "green" a product is and its overall impact on the environment. In today’s world, companies often prefer molded pulp to be visible as it serves to enhance their reputations as businesses concerned with the environment.
