Tekserve Hosts Lower East Side Ecology Center for Free eWaste Recycling Drive July 10th
Bring your electronic recyclables to Tekserve on Saturday, July 10th, from 10am to 4pm to be responsibly recycled; and while you're there, receive a coupon for $25* and register in a raffle to win a new Apple Mac mini.
Since 2007, Tekserve and the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC) have teamed up to host free-of-charge recycling drives for the public in front of Tekserve's store in New York City.
New York City currently offers no eWaste drop-off program of its own. But under a new law recently passed by the New York State legislature (one of the most strict eWaste measures in the country), beginning April 1, 2011, electronics manufactures will be obligated to offer take-back programs.
Tekserve is proud to lead the way in helping New Yorkers recycle. At the last eWaste event, over 900 people brought nearly 18 tons of recyclable material, keeping tons of hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium, and mercury out of our landfills.
If you missed the last event or couldn't bring everything you wanted to, now is the time to properly dispose of the old electronics taking up space in your home. The collection point will be at 119 West 23rd Street, just off of Sixth Avenue, in front of Tekserve's retail store.
Recyclable items include: computers, monitors, fax machines, copiers, DVD/VCR players, radios, telephones, cell phones, televisions, cameras, and stereo equipment. Unfortunately, Tekserve and the LESEC cannot accept home appliances, such as microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, and air conditioners, nor can they accept drop-offs from businesses.
