For companies that rely on daily inbound or outbound shipments, pallets are a necessary part of business. Those who fail to monitor and track their pallet usage can run into a bevy of problems, including elevated operational costs, process bottlenecks or inefficiencies and excess waste around the warehouse. As a result, some owners are turning to their creative side when dealing with used pallets.

According to a 2014 survey by Kelton Global, just half of Americans say they recycle 75% or more of their recyclable items and only 8% say they recycle all recyclables. With respect to packaging waste, the U.S. EPA’s most recent figures (2014) state that 51.5% of all packaging is recycled; however this includes transport packaging such as pallets, shrink wrap and corrugated cardboard generated in the commercial and institutional sector, which is recovered at a higher rate than household packaging.

Simply put, recycling is a win-win industry. It takes products or commodities which have been previously used and turns them into something new, like plastic, or the same exact thing as it was before, like paper.
I recently spoke at the Recycle Confex in Dubai, where industry professionals from around the world over came together to discuss the present and future of recycling.
