Some of the world's most high-profile corporate and civic leaders have recently agreed to join a new governance body with AccountAbility, the leading global corporate social responsibility and sustainability organization.

The creation of a new Advisory Council at AccountAbility is a move which Sunil "Sunny" Misser, Chief Executive Officer, believes will enable the organisation to make an impact on corporate good practice at a hitherto unimagined level.

Hans Decker, former President and CEO of Siemens Corporation (USA) and currently Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, will chair the Advisory Council. He is joined by a group of thought leaders drawn from the highest echelons of international business with a cross-cutting focus that takes in all key sectors. "It is an honor to work with a Council whose members have done so much to advance corporate social responsibility in their organisations," said Decker.

"I know from personal experience that corporate responsibility is a critical imperative for successful, forward looking and profitable organizations. AccountAbility is the right organization at the right time to drive sustainability to the top of a global leadership agenda," he added.

Decker is joined on the Council by Carol Atwood who is Chair of King Arthur Flour; John Fraser, the Chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management; Mr. Robert Herz, former Chairman of the US Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB); Abdallah S. Jum'ah former President and CEO of Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco); Mthunzi Mdwaba, Member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization; Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, Chairman of Hermes Equity Ownership Services; and Subramaniam Ramadorai, who is Chairman of Tata Technologies Limited.

Together, they will provide strategic guidance and support AccountAbility's mission to advance corporate responsibility and sustainability by increasing the impact of its standards, shaping a leading research agenda and delivering transformative service solutions. "We are delighted to have such a distinguished group of individuals from around the world demonstrate not only their commitment to sustainability but also their support for AccountAbility's vision and direction," said Misser.

Sunny Misser became CEO of AccountAbility in May 2010 and has vowed to reinvent the organisation as the pre-eminent global CR research, standards and professional services firm. "To achieve that goal," Misser emphasized, "we need both vision and experience. Vision to help us build a new AccountAbility based on our legacy of innovation in research and experience in delivering practical, high value solutions that transform organizations," he added. "This combination of 'mind and muscle' is critical in shaping the sustainability agenda of the future while mainstreaming sustainability into business thinking and practice."

AccountAbility's AA1000 series of principles-based standards to help organisations become more accountable, responsible and sustainable have already been adopted by hundreds of enterprises. Meanwhile, the research and development arm of AccountAbility is recognised for its leading-edge capability in applied research. "We have accumulated a great depth of expertise both thematically, in areas such as governance and organisational design, responsible competitiveness, and stakeholder engagement, as well as in specific sectors; for example, financial services, pharmaceuticals, energy and extractives, information and communications technology and consumer goods. We have a proven track record of success in both emerging markets and the developed world," said Misser.

"It is gratifying for the value and robustness of our approach to be validated and recognised by the calibre of professionals who sit on our Advisory Council. Now, with their help and support, we want to leverage our expertise to mainstream CSR and transform the way corporations behave on the global stage," he concluded.
