Report Highlights

Fibria is a Brazilian forestry-based company, a world leader in the production of eucalyptus pulp. The company operates in 257 Brazilian municipalities and exports to 38 countries.

Fibria 2016 Report, which is now being released, contains the company's practices, results and challenges throughout the year and how its activities impacted the market in which it operates and the relationship with its stakeholders.

The theme A New Horizon For All makes reference to project Horizonte 2 - expansion of the Três Lagoas unit in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul - and to the more than 17,000 own employees and contractors responsible for the company's achievements.

"Fibria has always positioned itself as a company dedicated to generating economic, social and environmental value from planted forests. From an economic standpoint, we lead the global production of eucalyptus pulp. Concerning the environment, we are part of the solution to the adversities caused by climate change. And in the social area, we carry out projects in partnership with the communities and we maintain permanent dialogue in the municipalities where we operate,” says José Luciano Penido, Fibria's Chairman of the Board of Directors.

"We want to make a difference by setting the best standards in our planted forests, conserving and restoring native forests, as well as pursuing greater efficiency in our industrial and logistics operations. All this, however, without neglecting our commitments to dialogue and creating value to our audiences," says Marcelo Castelli, Fibria's President and CEO.

In this reporting cycle, the company favors the online format to facilitate access to information, to allow for greater interactivity and to provide clarity and depth to the entire content. On the website, an interactive infographic shows Fibria's value chain and provides some of the social and environmental challenges faced by the business.

Videos support the narrative by introducing project Horizonte 2 and the interviews with the Chairman of the Board and with the CEO. The purpose is to humanize the reporting process.

Seeking greater transparency and accountability, Fibria developed an Indicators Center for the technical and specialist audiences. It is a comprehensive panel that shows the performance of the company using interactive charts that allow changing the format and cropping the information. It also allows downloading in PDF and CSV formats, and sharing the information in social media.

In addition to digital format, there is an abridged hard copy version and two posters containing infographics: one for the general audience and one for business partners. The report follows the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), and uses Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as a benchmark.

2016 Highlights

Expansion of the Três Lagoas Unit (Mato Grosso do Sul)
Project Horizonte 2, which is building the company's second pulp production line in Mato Grosso do Sul and is one of the largest private investments in Brazil, in the order of BRL 7.5 billion, has as its backdrop the achievements and social and environmental dilemmas inherent to a project of this magnitude.

In order to meet this challenge of building a new horizon for all, Fibria used its ability for an open and transparent dialogue. Based on these conversations, several multisector projects emerged, involving the company, other companies, associations, NGOs, academia, and different spheres of government.

New Long-Term Goals
To ensure the implementation of the strategy and of the sustainability of the business, Fibria has set Long-Term Goals that will guide the company's operations until 2025. In 2016, Fibria established a new Goal, focused on water, which unfolds on the following fronts:

  • Forestry: carry out water management in micro watersheds in Fibria's forests and disseminate technical know-how on the subject to our neighbors in critical watersheds.
  • Nurseries: reduce by 17% water consumption per seedling produced.
  • Industry: reduce by 17% consumption of water withdrawal per ton of pulp produced.

Social Investment
The Rural Land Development Program (PDRT) has helped Fibria create value and strengthen bonds in the rural communities where it operates. The program trains family farmers to produce various crops and raise small animals. The initiative is currently contributing to increase the income of more than 5,000 families. Income growth since the beginning of the program has totaled between 4 and 5 minimum wages per family.
