British Land will be increasing focus on promoting wellbeing and productivity, supporting local communities, future proofing assets, and developing skills and opportunities.

British Land will be building on its strong social and environmental track record:

  • Over 500 apprenticeships supported by British Land and its partners since 2013
  • 480 people benefited from the firm’s employment and training initiatives this year
  • 55% local procurement at British Land properties this year, with £24 million spent with local firms
  • 3.5 million sq ft of BREEAM Excellent sustainable new offices, shops, homes and cinemas since 2009
  • 39% reduction in carbon (Scope 1 and 2) across British Land’s like-for-like portfolio since 2009
  • 40% reduction in energy use since 2009, saving occupiers £10 million and cutting carbon emissions
  • 95% of waste diverted from landfill at our properties and developments this year.

Areas that have proved challenging include getting planning permission for a showcase sustainable building and achieving substantial water reductions.
