Chairman and CEO Rex Tillerson said, “By focusing on creating long-term benefits for communities, we are contributing to society’s broader sustainability objectives, creating a more stable business environment and improved quality of life.”

The report summarizes ExxonMobil’s plans, initiatives and performance across six key citizenship focus areas: safety, health and the workplace; environmental performance; managing climate change risks; community and social impact; local development and supply chain management; and corporate governance. This year’s Corporate Citizenship Report highlights achievements over the past decade, including:

  • Decreasing its total workforce lost-time incident rate by 50 percent
  • Managing 7,200 acres of land for the benefit of wildlife
  • Reducing flaring by 41 percent
  • Contributing $835 million to education programs around the world
  • Spending $8.2 billion with minority- and women-owned suppliers in the United States

The report also describes ExxonMobil’s approach to stakeholder engagement and social investment, described in detail throughout the report’s case studies:

  • Protecting the workforce and communities from infectious diseases such as malaria and Ebola
  • Innovative fuel, lubricant and chemical products and engaging with customers to increase sustainability benefits
  • ExxonMobil’s holistic approach to corporate citizenship in Papua New Guinea

The Corporate Citizenship Report was prepared in accordance with the reporting guidelines and indicators of the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association and the American Petroleum Institute Oil and Gas Industry Guidance on Sustainability Reporting (December 2010). The report also cross references the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3.1 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. Additionally, ExxonMobil’s External Citizenship Advisory Panel provided its annual review of the company’s citizenship initiatives.
