Description

Archipelagos, Institute of Marine & Environmental Research of the Aegean
Sea, is a non-profit, non-governmental, environmental organization, based
on the island of Ikaria, and active throughout the Aegean Sea. Since 1998,
Archipelagos has combined scientific research of marine and terrestrial
environment of the Greek Seas, with efficient conservation actions, in
which the local communities have had active participation.
The main principle of Archipelagos’ action, is the conservation of
ecosystems as a whole (and not of isolated species), a fact which ensures
the protection of all species that live within them. As, if we continue to
allow ecosystems to be destroyed, neither wildlife nor human communities
will be able to survive.
Archipelago’s research team works in the field in the Aegean Sea
throughout the year, for the implementation of scientific research on
which conservation actions are based, in close collaboration with the
local communities.
