Health Product Declaration® Collaborative (HPDC) announces that Tristan Roberts is joining its staff in the role of Technical and Education Director. HPDC was established in 2012 as a customer-led, member organization dedicated to improving transparency and material health in the building industry. In the role of Technical and Education Director, Roberts will provide staff leadership, working with the HPDC Board, Technical Committee members, and the broader material health community of practice, for the evolution of the HPD Open Standard, the most widely-used specification for reporting building product contents and associated health information. He will also lead the development of education and training materials that are essential to the growing use and adoption of the Standard.

Tristan Roberts is a leader in the advancement of green building practices. During his eleven-year career with BuildingGreen, Inc, where he most recently was Chief Strategy Officer, he moderated and led the community development of LEEDuser forum, supporting over 10,000 users. He is the author of hundreds of articles and in-depth reports on building industry trends and technologies, and is a frequent speaker and educator in the areas of green building and sustainable design. His objective stance and focus on practical tools has earned him the trust of a wide spectrum of stakeholders in the industry, including architects, sustainability professionals, manufacturers, and nonprofit groups.

Roberts is filling the position that has been held by Joel Ann Todd since 2015.  Todd, a distinguished contributor to many pioneering sustainability programs in the building industry, is retiring. She intends to remain actively involved in her volunteer activities, including co-chairing the USGBC Social Equity Working Group. On behalf of the HPDC membership and broader community, we thank Joel for her many contributions to a healthier, more sustainable and more equitable built environment.

In the past three years the HPDC organization has grown from its founding members to over 230 organization members, representing over 700 professionals working in architecture, design, construction, building product manufacturing and related fields. In addition to overseeing the HPD Open Standard and providing educational offerings, HPDC makes available the HPD Public Repository, with over 3,800 published HPDs freely available to all. New HPDs are being published at the rate of over 100 per month and over 500 manufacturers are represented in the Repository.

“We could not be more delighted than to have Tristan Roberts join our HPDC team,” said Wendy Vittori, HPDC Executive Director. “Tristan brings a depth and breadth of capabilities, proven thought leadership - qualities that will position us strongly to advance information harmonization and transparency in the building industry. These are essential elements to fuel the next wave of market transformation, with a focus on information quality, measurable environmental and health performance and collaborative, open innovation. Welcome, Tristan!”
