The New York Academy of Sciences, with encouragement from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and the support of the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, will host the Second Annual Summit on Science Enablement for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Academy’s headquarters on Tuesday, October 17^th. The Summit will bring together decision-makers, stakeholders and expert scientists to explore how science can help strategically advance delivery of the SDGs.

Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General, United Nations, will deliver opening remarks at the Summit, and speakers will include Martin Fleming, Chief Economist, IBM, Robert Kirkpatrick, Director, UN Global Pulse and Joanna Rubinstein, President & CEO, World Childhood Foundation USA, among other distinguished experts.

Leading partner organizations from a host of companies and organizations will participate and share best practices and actionable examples from their respective organizations work toward the SDGs. These include UNICEF, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Forum for the Future, the United Nations, Chobani, the Japan Science and Technology Agency, Harvard Business School, DSM Nutritional Products, SustainAbility, NYU School of Public Health, BASF and PepsiCo.

The day's agenda will feature plenaries and panel discussions that will address emerging critical topics including Systems Thinking in the SDG Context, Data, Personal Identity and Privacy, Science-Based Targets for Sustainability and Linking Research to Impact. Progress reports on interdisciplinary themes including People in Crisis, Early Childhood Development, Sustainable Consumption and Production,  and Food Security and Nutrition will also be discussed.
