Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced the next evolution of Univision Contigo, its award-winning corporate social responsibility and community empowerment platform, to focus on empowering and enabling communities to build strong minds, promote healthy habits and celebrate diversity.

Univision Contigo will build strong minds by both leading the way for diversity in the media and technology sectors and promoting science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education and opportunities, targeting parents of young children to adults advancing their careers.

UCI kicked off its efforts today at the 6th Annual Latino Media and Marketing Conference hosted by the California State University, Fullerton, where, in conjunction with Univision Los Angeles, it announced a new partnership with the university’s College of Communications’ Latino Communications Initiative.  UCI also announced it is continuing the media diversity initiatives begun in 2016 with the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, the National Hispanic Media Coalition and the Televisa Foundation. More collaborations will be announced later this year.

"Our joint effort with the Latino Communications Initiative will prepare the next generation of bilingual and multicultural content creators and media professionals by providing hands-on learning opportunities in media and marketing," said Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, executive vice president of Government and Corporate Affairs for UCI.  "Investing in tomorrow's Hispanic communicators not only makes sense but lets us better serve and empower our communities.”

“We are so pleased and honored to partner with Univision for the Sixth Annual Latino Media and Marketing Conference at California State University, Fullerton,” said Mildred García, president of Cal State Fullerton. “Our Communications department graduates more Hispanics than any other such department in the nation, and our Latino Communications Initiative was conceived to focus on that population by developing curricular and co-curricular activities, increasing research opportunities, and serving as a workforce pipeline to Spanish and bilingual media organizations. Our partnership with Univision and this launch is an example of the amazing things that can happen when we work together toward common goals that benefit our students and community.”

Univision Contigo will also be promoting healthy habits this year by educating and providing innovative content to audiences about diabetes, obesity, fitness, and the outdoors. To celebrate diversity, the company will embark on a year-long campaign highlighting positive role models and images within our community that embrace the culture and identity of our diverse communities.

Leveraging UCI’s multiplatform assets across television, radio, digital, and hundreds of community events each year, Univision Contigo will continue to keep audiences informed and engaged on the issues most pressing to their families and communities, including immigration and citizenship issues.

Originally launched in 2013, Univision Contigo builds on UCI’s nearly 60 years of service and engagement with the Hispanic community and build’s on the Company’s long-standing mission to entertain, inform and empower the communities it serves. The comprehensive initiative, created in conjunction with some of the country’s leading experts and organizations, focuses providing access to valuable information and resources to Hispanic families and individuals in the U.S.
