About Carla Walter:

Carla Walter was most recently the Vice President of Administrative Services at Chabot College in Hayward, California. There she led approximately 200 members of faculty and staff at a school with over 10,000 students. Dr. Walter moved into this role after serving as Dean, School of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences where she directed all aspects of the academic and related programs.

Prior to her appointment at Chabot College, she served as Director, Arts Management Program, and Associate Professor of Marketing and Management at California Lutheran University. Earlier in her career, Dr. Walter was Associate Professor and MBA Program Director at Missouri Southern State University. Previously,  Dr. Walter held the distinction of Founder and Executive Director of West Coast Festival Ballet Theatre in Temecula, California. She recruited and led and then reported to the Board of Directors, comprised of business executives, arts council members, and community members.

Before embarking on a career in higher education, Dr. Walter served as Chief Operating Officer, at MBIA Muni Financial, Temecula, California. In this externally facing position, reporting to the board and CEO, Dr. Walter held direct financial responsibility for oversight of top and bottom line profitability; budget planning and alignment for formation and alignment of bonded special assessment districts, and the required IRS arbitrage rebate and debt reporting, delinquency and foreclosure; and public policy and implementation, representing more than 120 municipalities and school districts as clients, for bond revenues exceeding $30 billion for infrastructure and facilities financing.

Dr. Walter has written and published multiple books, journal articles, book chapters, and proceedings publications. Her most recent text, Arts Management: An Entrepreneurial Approach (Routledge 2015) provides a view of the nonprofit field that considers a wide array of topics confronting the culturepreneur, including cultural policy and social fundraising.
