Los Angeles, Calif., Sep. 28 /CSRwire/ - Recognized by the United Nations for its lifesaving model to eliminate pediatric AIDS and promote healthy motherhood, mothers2mothers (m2m) will mark its 15th birthday on Tuesday, October 4 with a year-long global initiative—Change Tomorrow Today—celebrating m2m’s role in creating brighter tomorrows for nearly 1.5 million HIV-positive mothers and their children in sub-Saharan Africa. The core belief driving this initiative is embodied in the first campaign to launch in the U.S. on m2m’s 15th birthday—Every Child Deserves a Birthday—to create healthier, brighter birthdays for children living with HIV.

When m2m was founded in 2001, about 1,500 babies were born with HIV each day. Today, more than 400 babies are infected with HIV each day globally, a drop of almost 75%. m2m trains, employs, and empowers local mothers living with HIV as “Mentor Mothers” to provide essential health education and support to women on how they can protect their babies from HIV infection, and keep themselves and their families healthy. For the past two years, m2m has virtually eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV among its clients, according to UN Global Plan guidelines.*

The Every Child Deserves a Birthday campaign encourages everyone to pledge their or their child’s birthday to celebrate families and empower mothers to end pediatric AIDS. With fundraising partner Global Impact, the campaign is now live on CrowdRise, a U.S.-based online crowdfunding platform, to engage donors through virtual parties and downloadable ways to have real-life parties with a purpose.

The campaign has already raised nearly $25,000. The official launch party on September 13 was hosted by mother, entrepreneur, and m2m campaign co-chair, Laure Heriard Dubreuil of The Webster, who opened her home to friends and family following its August feature in Architectural Digest.  Guests, who were asked to donate to m2m in lieu of birthday gifts, included influencers in the fashion and art world such as Aaron Young, Adam Lippes, Anne McNally, Athena Calderone, Aurelie Bidermann, Brenda de la Vega, Brett Haymen, Carlos Mota, Casey Fremont, Derek Blasberg, Fabiola Beracasa, Garance Dore, George Sotelo, Giovanna Battaglia, Gigi Burris, Gina Nanni, Jessica Diehl, Kate Foley, Lauren Remington Platt, Maria Duenas Jacobs, Sarah Andelman, Ramon Martin, Rickie De Sole, Ryan Lobo, Robert Burke, Samira Nasr, Zani Gugelmann, and Virginie Mouzat.

Laure is joined by campaign co-chair, Dr. Barbara Loeb, an Internal Medicine Physician, Chief Medical Officer for Chicago Health System (Tenet Healthcare), mother and grandmother, who hosted two Chicago events featuring an m2m Mentor Mother sharing the story of her journey to an engaged group of supporters.

A partnership with BabyCenter—the #1 pregnancy and parenting digital destination globally reaching more than 45 million parents a month—will support the Every Child Deserves a Birthday campaign by promoting it via editorial and social media in the U.S. and U.K. BabyCenter is dedicated to providing women around the world the information and support they need to have healthy pregnancies, babies, and lives, and its partnership with m2m is an example of this commitment.

YOXO (pronounced "yock-so"), a sustainable toy company based in the U.S., has joined the party by offering a 20 percent discount to anyone who pledges their birthday. YOXO is dedicated to supporting creative childhoods and healthy kids around the globe.

mothers2mothers U.K. will launch Brighter Birthdays, its first campaign under the Change Tomorrow Today initiative. Molly Gunn, founder and editor of the blog Selfish Mother, and designer of ‘Good Tees’ has raised over £200,000 for charities and will be hosting an event at Push PR on October 5 in London, welcoming other well-known British bloggers to learn about the campaign.
