At the first ever Companies Vs Climate Change conference, on November 30-December 2, 2016 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Mr. Van Voorhis will discuss how the GreenTrees’ River System approach to reforestation is a sustainable financial process and also a new model for producing scale and delivering conservation capitalism. He will speak on how GreenTrees utilizes its ACRE (Advanced Carbon Restored Ecosystem) model as a way for beginning to value our natural capital as well as review how GreenTrees employs the power of nature's technology to address climate change.

Mr. Van Voorhis, of The Plains, VA, is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of C2I, LLC. Widely acknowledge as a leading expert in conservation and ecological markets, Van Voorhis recently gave TEDx Talk and has guest lectured at Centre College, Johns Hopkins, Princeton and Yale and authored several publications on the emergence of natural capital. He authored “The Rise of Natural Capitalism and the new Frontier of Conservation Finance” in the book Wilderness, Wildlands and People: A Partnership for the Planet, published in 2008 and "Finding New Ways to Think About the Environment and Economy" in the book Global Climate Change: A Senior-Level Debate at the Intersection of Economics, Strategy, Technology, Science, Politics and International Negotiation, published in 1998. Prior to co-founding C2I, Mr. Van Voorhis was co-host of GreenWave Radio, a nationally syndicated radio talk show on the environment and business. In 2002, he was awarded, along with Mr. Crane, the nation’s most distinguished private conservation award, the ChevronTexaco Conservation Award. Mr. Van Voorhis is the former President of the Alliance for Environmental Education, an international non-profit that played a key role in getting environmental education in K-8 over the last 30 years. Currently, Mr. Van Voorhis serves on the Board of the American Conservation Legacy Fund, The Center for Natural Capital, is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America.

GreenTrees, LLC, headquartered in The Plains, VA, is reforesting one million acres of marginal farmland in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley. To date they have planted over 30 million trees on 120,000 acres, in partnership with private landowners. The tree plantings have generated millions of tonnes of verified carbon credits that are registered on the American Carbon Registry (ACR). Those credits account for the vast majority of domestic forestry credits ever registered on the voluntary market. However, GreenTrees’ project is about much more than generating carbon credits. One-third of all emissions have come from land-use change, namely deforestation. By reforesting land GreenTrees is helping to bend the climate curve, restore species habitat, clean the water, and support the local and global economy. Trees are nature’s technology, the only readily deployable and scalable solution to climate change.
